Apply permethrin cream 5% to all skin surfaces from the neck down, paying close attention to skin folds, between fingers, and around the genitals. Ensure thorough coverage.
Leave the cream on for 8-14 hours, then wash it off with soap and water. A shower is ideal.
Reapply the cream after 7 days, following the same procedure. This second application helps eliminate any remaining mites and eggs.
Wash all bedding, towels, and clothing in hot water and dry them on a high heat setting. This kills mites and prevents reinfestation.
Vacuum your carpets and furniture thoroughly. Mites can survive for a short time off the body, so this step is important.
Itching may continue for several weeks even after treatment. This is normal as it takes time for the skin to heal. An over-the-counter antihistamine can help relieve itching.
If symptoms persist after two treatments, or if you experience a severe reaction, consult your doctor immediately.
Avoid sharing towels, bedding, or clothing with others during and after treatment to prevent spreading the infestation.
