Proper Dosage and Administration of Tetracycline

Always follow your doctor’s prescription exactly. Never alter the dosage or duration of treatment without consulting a healthcare professional.

Oral Administration

Tetracycline is usually taken orally. Swallow capsules or tablets whole with a full glass of water. Avoid taking tetracycline with dairy products, antacids, or iron supplements, as these can reduce absorption.

Timing: Take the medication at the prescribed intervals, typically twice a day, to maintain consistent blood levels. Food Interactions: Take the medication on an empty stomach (at least one hour before or two hours after meals) unless your doctor instructs otherwise. Water Intake: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to help prevent dehydration and potential kidney problems.

Important Considerations

Complete the entire course of treatment, even if you start feeling better before the medication is finished. Stopping early can lead to antibiotic resistance and recurrence of infection.

Sun Sensitivity: Tetracycline can increase your sensitivity to sunlight. Use sunscreen with a high SPF and protective clothing when exposed to the sun. Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant. Tetracycline can harm a developing fetus and may pass into breast milk. Side Effects: Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach upset. Report any severe or persistent side effects to your doctor immediately. Allergies: If you’ve ever had an allergic reaction to tetracycline or other antibiotics, inform your doctor before starting treatment.

Storage

Store tetracycline in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep it out of reach of children and pets.
