Expect some initial irritation. This typically includes dryness, redness, and peeling. These symptoms usually lessen as your skin adjusts, typically within a few weeks.
Increased sun sensitivity is common. Always use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher daily, even on cloudy days. Reapply frequently, especially after swimming or sweating.
Burning or stinging sensations are possible, particularly after application. Applying a thin layer and allowing it to absorb fully can minimize this.
Rarely, tretinoin can cause hyperpigmentation (dark spots) or hypopigmentation (light spots). This is more likely in individuals with darker skin tones. Consult your dermatologist if you notice unusual changes in skin pigmentation.
If you experience severe irritation, swelling, or blistering, discontinue use and contact your dermatologist immediately.
Remember to follow your dermatologist’s instructions carefully. They can provide personalized advice and address any concerns.
