Interactions with Other Medications and Substances

Always inform your doctor about all medications you’re taking, including over-the-counter drugs, supplements, and herbal remedies. This includes nitrates (found in some heart medications), alpha-blockers (used for high blood pressure or prostate problems), and certain antifungals. Combining Vardenafil with these can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure.

Specific Medication Interactions

Vardenafil’s interaction with ritonavir and indinavir (HIV protease inhibitors) necessitates careful dose adjustments or avoidance, as these medications significantly increase Vardenafil’s concentration in the blood, potentially leading to adverse effects. Similarly, co-administration with erythromycin or ketoconazole (antifungals) needs medical supervision due to increased Vardenafil levels. Grapefruit juice also inhibits the metabolism of Vardenafil, resulting in higher blood levels and increased risk of side effects. Avoid grapefruit juice while using Vardenafil.

Alcohol and Vardenafil

Consuming alcohol while taking Vardenafil can enhance side effects, particularly dizziness and lightheadedness. Moderate alcohol consumption is generally advised; however, individual tolerance varies, so listen to your body. Excessive alcohol intake should be avoided.
