Schedule a follow-up appointment with your doctor 7-10 days after completing your Bactrim course.
During this appointment, your doctor will:
- Assess your symptoms. Report any lingering discomfort, pain, or discharge. Conduct a urine or urethral swab test to confirm the infection’s eradication. Discuss potential complications or side effects from the medication.
Before your appointment, note:
- The date you started and finished your Bactrim course. A detailed description of your symptoms, including frequency and severity. Any new or worsening symptoms experienced since starting treatment.
Refrain from sexual activity until your doctor clears you. This prevents reinfection and allows for a complete recovery. This is particularly important if your partner also needs treatment.
Drink plenty of water to help flush out your system. Maintain good hygiene practices, particularly thorough cleaning after urination.
If you experience severe symptoms, such as high fever, chills, or severe abdominal pain, seek immediate medical attention. Don’t hesitate to contact your doctor if you have any concerns or questions before your follow-up.
Complete your entire course of Bactrim, even if you start feeling better. Avoid alcohol during treatment, as it can interfere with medication efficacy. Inform your doctor about any other medications you are taking.
